Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. As a non-muslim one may not be aware of the things to watch out for and be careful of during this month. Here is a short guide of the do’s and don’ts of Ramadan to help you as a non-muslim.
What you can do
Three things you can do:
- Be mindful of their fast – To the best of your ability, do not bring food and drinks in front of them as this makes their fast harder than it already is for them.
- Give them space for spiritual practices – If they need to pray and can’t make it to a mosque or is planning to pray at work, by not standing in front of them or talking loudly you are allowing them to focus on their prayer and it is a great form of respect not to distract them.
- Awareness that they need to break their fast by sunset – Simply avoid scheduling items around that time and try not to keep them behind at work before this time if they are trying to leave early for iftar.
